WInter's End 04:44
Time and again You say that we’re just friends But then again, then again We walk downtown The leaves are grey and the sky is brown At Winter’s end, Winter’s end It’s bits and pieces, but it could be a song Winter’s still here, but it’s warm and it’s strong You write a couple of verses and maybe I could sing along It’s bits and pieces, but it could be a song The Sun melts fat An orange yolk on the horizon Blue to purple, grey to black Still there’s no more stars Just these tracks and trains and sleepy bars Where time moves slowly, but never back It’s bits and pieces, but it could be a song Winter’s still here, but it’s warm and it’s strong You write a couple of verses and maybe I could sing along It’s bits and pieces, but it could be a song Skip like a stone Off the pier and plunge into the unknown Feelings have grown And the seasons will shift on their own It’s bits and pieces, but it could be a song Winter’s still here, but it’s warm and it’s strong You pen a couple of verses and maybe I could hum along It’s bits and pieces, but it could be a song © Copyright 2017 Thomas Newbold – ASCAP

It’s that Petaluma Purple The clouds are green tonight And the moon hangs so low And close to your eye We’ll drive out past the upkeep Stand by the side of the road Keep your keys in the ignition In case the five rolls And who needs forgiveness For what he ain’t already done We just want safe passage A memory of fun A memory of fun I heard they’re out at the Quarry But that’s alright ‘Cause the mood is easy And the feeling is right The air’s as crisp as an apple Washed in a snow melt stream And your breath joins the thick fog That weaves low through the trees We’ll crank up the Alpine Mellow on the ledge We could lie on the hood Or just lean on the edge Beneath that Petaluma Purple The clouds turn green tonight And the moon hangs so low And close to your eye It’s close to your eye And I don’t want nothing But I need a ride Don’t leave me white knuckling On the passenger side © Copyright 2017 Thomas Newbold – ASCAP

Well, I was listening to the rhythm of the city one night When you rushed at me like a freight train light And you slapped me upside the head, baby, with your love I started crying like a baby that had just been born As my back bowed out and my shirt got torn But I could be your apparatus little gymnast any time you feel Baby, you just ask me and I’ll be there You can harass me, I don’t care But don’t you walk right past me and avoid my stare You so classy, but you’re nasty when you dare You so classy, but you’re nasty when you dare Well, we were sitting eating supper in a fancy little joint And the waiter had a stick and he never made his point And the drinks cost twice as much as the worst we’d seen So you threw me in the lady’s room and up against the wall But you didn’t hit the lock and we never made the stall And a blue-haired lady with a hat came a waltzin’ in She starts mumblin’ something ‘bout “Sakes Alive!” But I see fire in her eyes and she’s looking at my thighs And suddenly the bathroom attendant stands up and clears her throat But you calmly walk over, throw a five in her jar And then a squirt of perfume and as we walk to the car You like right at me and say: “Hey man! Did we even pay?” You so classy in the summer time I put a flower in your hair Keep me guessing in the winter time What’s underneath that Pea Coat that you wear? We were driving through the woods drinking IPA When a cop pulled over and I started to pray But you were laughing in the shotgun seat like we had won a prize Well, he’s asking ‘bout my blinker and my speed changing lanes And I’m sweating and I’m pissing and I’m trying to explain But you say: “Sir, we’re up from LA and that’s the way we drive,” Well, somehow that seems to work and he warns me: “Slow down,” And to use my little blinker when I hit the next town And I need a change of shorts, but you say: “Damn, I feel alive!” You slam your fist on the dash and shove your face into mine I see your shoes fly off out of the corner of my eye And as the cop rolls on he doesn’t notice our seats recline © Copyright 2017 Thomas Newbold – ASCAP

I see you running headfirst, straight downhill But downhill’s ease could have false appeal Someday soon you’re gonna have to reach the bottom One day you’ll have to stop and feel I tell you that it’s all my fault I try to make it all my fault Words fall flat in the sense of trying to prove what’s right I tell you that it’s all my fault I try to make it all my fault I just can’t seem to help you into the light One day there’ll be nothing left to do, but die But that’s no reason for you to seem so blue We’ll sit right down at the counsel of the enemy Knowing damn well that he used to be a friend to me One day there’ll be nothing left to do So we could just sit here like it’s all ok Or you can pretend that I’m not here But that cloud’s not real and it’s not going away The shadow has moved in to stay I tell you that it’s all my fault I try to make it all my fault Words fall flat in the sense of trying to prove what’s right I tell you that it’s all my fault I try to make it all my fault I just can’t seem to help you into the light One day there’ll be nothing left to do, but die But that’s no reason for you to seem so blue We’ll sit right down at the counsel of the enemy Knowing damn well that he used to be a friend to me One day there’ll be nothing left to do Why you wanna be like her? What are you trying to learn? Why you wanna be like her? Why you wanna smolder and burn? I tell you that it’s all my fault I try to make it all my fault Words fall flat in the sense of trying to prove what’s right I tell you that it’s all my fault I try to make it all my fault I just can’t seem to help you into the light One day there’ll be nothing left to do, but die But that’s no reason for you to seem so blue We’ll sit right down at the counsel of the enemy Knowing damn well that he used to be a friend to me One day there’ll be nothing left to prove © Copyright 2017 Thomas Newbold – ASCAP

The Mend 05:04
We Stepped into forward With our two heads in the clouds Now we’ve lived, loved, and learned something of The way that they handmade the crowd But you’re on the mend I’ll always be your very best friend So long as you still care to pretend We were born on the same pathway In this town more simple than it’s name Where the earth is made of clay and the seasons still change And the river’s just the tide from the bay But we came to a crossroads I chose one and you again And the wind filled our sails and it widened our trails But could they ever meet up in the end? But you’re on the mend I’ll always be your very best friend So long as you still care to pretend You ever intelligent You lived your life without just as well Making friends with your charms holding this life in your arms Like the embrace of a lover under your spell Oh, but I, I was a bold one I thought I knew Heaven from Sin ‘Till my sails caught fire and I knelt in the pyre That was once everything But you’re on the mend I’ll always be your very best friend So long as you still care to pretend Alas, now forever together Still afraid yet wizened by time And I stll love the girl who holds the whole world In the palm of that innocent smile But you’re on the mend I’ll shall remain your very best friend So long as you still care to pretend Do you still care to pretend? Oh, come with me Adrienne Make believe Adrienne © Copyright 2017 Thomas Newbold – ASCAP

Good Company 03:58
Everything in this life doesn’t have to be so hard The best things really are free We could find peace of mind in our own backyard In the presence of good company In the presence of good company I sit and sip coffee in my living room Playing papa and trying to write a couple new tunes I could start five, but I pray that I could finish two If I could just finish this one you know I’d send it to you And I’m sending this one out into the world And I’m sending it straight up in the air And with that comes a little inhibition Cause what you send out into the world Might just turn cold out there Everything in this life doesn’t have to be so hard The best things really are free We could find peace of mind in our own backyard In the presence of good company In the presence of good company And I can still remember how it all first went down I picked up and I left my home New wife, new life, in a brand new town Venturing off into the unknown And we learned a few lessons along the way Yeah, we picked up a thing or two And I wouldn’t have done it any other way Then to find myself waking up next to you ‘Cause everything in this life doesn’t have to be so hard The best things really are free We could find peace of mind in our own backyard In the presence of good company In the presence of good company © Copyright 2017 Thomas Newbold – ASCAP

Break It In 04:36
Times like these when the love is brand new You’ve got to listen with your eyes Her body telling you what to do You’ve got a tendency to move to fast And I know you want the loving to last You see that good, good lovin’ is seldom built on the pass And she said take it easy baby ‘cause the loving is strong, but it’s thin You’ve got to slow down Joe C’mon and break it in Break it In I know that you are and excitable boy And you’re trying to be cool But it’s just too tough to play it coy You’ve got a tendency to try too hard And if you push it then it ain’t in the cards She wants that good loving With the comfort of her own backyard And she said take it easy baby ‘cause the loving is strong, but it’s thin You’ve got to slow down Joe C’mon and break it in Break it In And she said take it easy baby ‘cause the loving is strong, but it’s oh so thin You’ve got to slow down Joe C’mon and break it in Slow down Joe C’mon and Break it In © Copyright 2017 Thomas Newbold – ASCAP

about

Newbold Los Angeles, California

Newbold has been writing music and performing live for too damn long for this to be his debut record. Born in Petaluma, in the north SF Bay Area, the singing drummer has lived his entire life in various parts of CA playing in bands and serving the song to the best of his ability. His slippery grooves and musicality coupled with his gritty vocals often draw comparisons to his idol, Levon Helm. ... more
